AYA — Motherland Collection

Founder

Founder Architect & Designer

AYA was founded by interior architect and designer Switchaya Yingseree Federowicz, whose work explores the relationship between material research, form, and everyday use. With over seventeen years of experience across commercial, hospitality, and residential design — including many years living and working in New York — her practice connects architectural thinking with human experience.

Alongside her design career, she founded the gallery The Switch in Manhattan's Lower East Side, creating a platform for art, craft, and cultural exchange.

AYA brings this perspective back to her family's ceramic production in Lampang, Thailand, where natural clay, generational craftsmanship, and contemporary design converge. The studio has long supplied and exported ceramic work to international brands, as well as restaurants and chefs — including Michelin-starred establishments.

Design Philosophy

Design Philosophy

AYA explores how objects shape experience. Each piece is designed through architectural thinking, where material, proportion, and space create quiet moments of everyday ritual.

Origin & Material

Origin & Material

Clay from Lampang, Thailand forms the foundation of AYA. Each piece begins with natural clay and is shaped through a balance of material research, form, and function. Hand-finished glazes and careful firing reveal the quiet character of the material.

Sustainable Design

Sustainable Design

Sustainability is embedded in the way AYA is designed and produced. Working with natural clay from Lampang and small-batch ceramic production, each piece is made with care for material, process, and longevity. Packaging is thoughtfully designed without plastic or toxic materials, reflecting a commitment to responsible craft and a future mindful of the next generation.

Color as Material

Color as Material

Motherland Collection approaches color as an extension of material. Inspired by elements of the natural environment, the palette is expressed through five tones: Sand, Bamboo, Rice Field, Sun, and Rain. Each glaze interacts with light and surface differently, allowing the material to reveal its character through form and everyday use.
